After a hard day's browsing through Lionheart LP’s in Crouch End, I was hungry for Curry!
You are spoilt for choice for Indian food In this area as there are several restaurants in close proximity. The Belash seemed the most inviting..
First Impressions :
The decor resembles a midnight Indian street scene; complete with mock balconies overlooking the tables. Thankfully i was spared a wild cow roaming the restaurant which would have completed the authenticity!
After several minutes, some Indian nuts appeared on the table. A nice touch.
After several more minutes, our order was taken.
Slow, slow service...
Starters:
The wine arrived in a Gothic chalice straight out of Hammers ‘Taste the blood of Dracula’!
The Papadums and pickle tray were very good when they eventually arrived.
Sadly I didn’t try the Bhajis here as I was all full up on Indian nuts!
The Mains :
It took 2 people to tell me that delivery of my Naan would be late…
The Lamb Saag was excellent but slightly salty. Tender meat. The Garlic Chilli Chicken was also fine. Both dishes had exquisite flavors and plentiful portions.
The garlic Naan was just the right size; not as big as the table!
The Verdict:
A 7 hour meal!...that's an exaggeration but it was a long meal.
A nice vibe, friendly, very slow service… but most importantly, good food!
Likely to dine here:
Andrew Powell and Jon Kelly.
